OZONE is the most powerful commercial oxidant in the World. It has been used primarily as for water disinfecƟons and malodorous off-gases from water & waste water treatment plants. Ozone must be generated on site for immediate use, this is best done through an ozone generator. The advantage of ozone for commercially treaƟng waste water is that it destroys bacteria, inhibits algae growth and reduces scaling. It has a faster reacƟon rate than chemicals and only oxidaƟon not chlorinaƟon takes place.
The oxygen gas or air from the preparatory system or oxygen concentrator is pass through a narrow gap or annulus are bordered on one side by a cool stainless steel grand electrode and on the other side by a dielectric electrode surfaced with an electrical conductor.
An alternaƟng current of high voltage is connected to the dielectric electrode, producing a high voltage field across the gap which results in corona discharge. The dielectric is necessary to prevent the micro discharges from becoming ares, which would rapidly destroy the electrode surface.
